Campaign Speech to Become your Presidential Elector:
Tomorrow I’ll be asking for the honor of working for this district for the balance of this term. Tonight, I am asking for the honor of representing you when North Carolina’s presidential electors come together in December to re-elect President Trump.
The Elector is a symbol, if you will - of the district and state they represent. There is and should be great symbolism in the person who signs to re-elect the President, so here are some the symbols of my life…
I grew up in the military. It was while a young teenager in California that I became a believer in Jesus. I ended up in Texas, my father’s home state. There I met my husband at college, married, had both of my children and a career in the employee health benefits industry. While I was with John Hancock, we decided to take a transfer, moving our family - and our family business - from Dallas to NC in 1993, so I could lead a business to business sales team over a multi-state region. Soon after we arrived, the company began trying to move us again, and then again…, however, we had already fallen in love with North Carolina, so when my division was eventually sold, I took the golden handshake to remain here. And, I then turned my attention to the community.
For the last 20 years I have participated in philanthropy and volunteerism. I have served on many, many committees and in leadership, I led the Canterbury School Capital Campaign (education)I was a 2-term Board President a breast cancer medical research organization - earlier.org (health care, which was also my career)2 terms on the Foundation Board for Family Service of the Piedmont (stabilizing families in crisis)I was in leadership at Bible Study Fellowship (500 women at that time), including being the Substitute Teaching Leader, as well as serving in missions and outreach at my church.
My political awakening occurred 13 years ago at the birth of my first grandson. Since then, I have not looked back. I started out in the Tea Party and soon became a volunteer for Guilford County Republican Party (Innumerable Campaigns,Poll Greeter, Poll Observer, Precinct Chair, District Chair, Executive Directory, Vice Chair and Lincoln Reagan Day Dinner Chair), Greater Greensboro Republican Women’s Club (Vice President and President), District 13 (Treasurer and Finance Chair), the NC GOP (Credentials Committee, Resolutions Committee, Assistant Finance Chair). In all these positions, I have been a shoulder to shoulder co-worker in the cause.
At the State Convention in 2016, I was elected one of the NC GOP alternate electors so I was able to witness, but not participate in, this wonderful creation of our founders’. Reflecting on the experience and realizing 2020 is also the 100th anniversary of the 19th amendment, I felt I should run to represent the 6th district as its Presidential Elector. Why not a woman who has shown long-term commitment and served in business, philanthropy, religion and politics? Who stands - with you - for life, for prosperity, national security and education excellence, among our other wonderful Republican values - that are, by the way, so beautifully embodied by President Donald J. Trump? There are not words to adequately convey the gratitude I would feel to represent you as your Presidential Elector. And I pledge to share as much of this experience as possible with all of you.
So thank you for your consideration and thank you for your vote.
